What our clients say

★★★★★

It can be a bit of a regulatory jungle when it comes to drones in Greenland, but Mads and Frederik were very helpful in guiding me through everything - and the whole process with the Transport Authority went smoothly without any problems. Got my permit in 6 weeks.

Mads — March 2025
★★★★★

I have worked with Mads for the past 5 years. Mads always takes responsibility and gets challenges resolved as they arise. We obtained a tailored permit to fly near Thule Air Base - something that would otherwise have been impossible to obtain on our own.

Peter — January 2026
★★★★★

Fast and efficient. Got my permit from the Transport Authority in 3 weeks. The operations manual went through without any comments. Mads and Erik also held an inspiring course in Nuuk where we were well equipped to navigate a complex airspace. 5 stars!

Drone regulations in Greenland

Flying a drone commercially in Greenland requires a permit from the Danish Transport Authority. The regulations differ significantly from those in Denmark and the EU - Greenland has its own set of rules under Danish aviation law.

There are three main regulatory frameworks: BL 9-4 for basic private flight, AIC B 08/14 for commercial operations near populated areas or airports, and SORA for complex operations such as BVLOS or flight above 120 metres.

All requirements are documented in the operations manual, which must be approved by the Transport Authority before you may fly. You are legally bound by its contents.

How to get a drone permit in Greenland

1. Complete an approved course

You must attend and complete a course that meets the Danish Transport Authority's guidelines, providing you with the necessary knowledge of rules, procedures and safety standards in Greenland's airspace.

2. Prepare an operations manual

You must have an operations manual prepared with all relevant information about your drones, procedures and regulatory compliance. You are legally committed to its contents.

3. Apply to the Transport Authority

The manual is submitted to the Transport Authority for approval. A fee is charged for the review, so it is important to get it right first time.

4. Take out mandatory liability insurance

You must have liability insurance covering damage to people, animals and property. A copy must be attached to your application.

5. Wait for approval

The Transport Authority typically takes 4-6 weeks. You may not fly under AIC B 08/14 until the permit has been received.

What must an operations manual contain?

An operations manual is typically around 80 pages and is submitted to the Transport Authority. It must contain at minimum:

  • Identification and contact informationOperator name and contact details.
  • Drone identificationModel, serial number and registration numbers.
  • Purpose and description of operationsPurpose, flight area and duration.
  • Risk assessment and safety measuresHazards and mitigating actions.
  • Flight area and restrictionsFlight altitude, distances and no-fly zones.
  • Communication and controlCommunication systems and emergency procedures.
  • Drone and equipment descriptionTechnical specifications and mounted equipment.
  • Pilot qualifications and trainingCertificates and training documentation.
  • Maintenance planRegular inspection and maintenance schedule.
  • Reporting obligationsProcedures for reporting incidents to authorities.

Liability insurance requirements

It is mandatory to have liability insurance covering potential damage caused by your drone - regardless of whether you fly under BL 9-4 or AIC 08/14. The insurance must be in place before approval and documented to the Transport Authority.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can I get my permit approved?

We prepare all documents in approximately 3 working days. The Transport Authority then typically takes 4-6 weeks. If you have an urgent assignment, we can investigate expedited processing.

Is an operations manual required to get a permit?

Yes. This is where you document how you intend to comply with the applicable regulations - and you are legally committed to its contents.

Is a physical drone course required?

In principle, yes. An in-house course is possible but requires your own materials to be approved by the Transport Authority - usually more time-consuming than using us as an external provider.

Can I write my own operations manual?

It is possible, but typically requires 20+ hours of work and a deep understanding of airspace structure and risk analysis. There is no guarantee of approval on the first attempt.
